Contemporary NSTEMI Management: The Role of the Hospitalist


TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physicians and other healthcare professionals, working in the care and management of NSTEMI.

EDUCATIONAL GOAL
The goal of this activity is to inform and assist hospitalists to contribute in an evidence-based fashion to achieving improved outcomes in NSTEMI.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • describe optimal approaches to risk stratification in hospitalized patients with NSTEMI
  • explain the options for timing and type of therapy in the upstream setting aimed at limiting ischemic damage in NSTEMI, including antithrombotic agents, statins, and beta blockers
  • provide a comprehensive overview of the management of important comorbidities in NSTEMI, including diabetes, hypertension, heart failure, and social and economic factors of care
  • list the key components of meeting standard of care and Core Measures outcomes in the hospital discharge of patients admitted for NSTEMI
  • construct a working differential diagnosis for elevated troponin levels outside the clinical setting of ACS
  • understand the risk:benefit balance of anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapy in managing ACS
